Over the last 6 years, I (Jesse) have amassed a small fortune in illiquid and inflation prone currency – airline miles – nearly 700,000 of them, the vast majority earned through my work travels. Granted, not Clooney numbers, but I have basically flown to visit the moon and back 1.5 times, or circled the globe 28 times. Converting these miles into air tickets and hotels has funded the vast majority of our trip.

The first hurdle has been cleared, BOS to IAD. We made our barely legal 44 min connection to the Dubai flight with plenty of time to spare (gates closed 5 people after us) 
All of you logistic-minded people, note the ample space for our carry-ons. In fact, taking this photo ellicited a chuckle or two from our cabin mate, one curmudgeonly fellow who was off to Kabul to build army barracks
