Yup, we are going to try to circumnavigate the globe without checking any bags. The biggest problem is that we are going to multiple different environments: we will be visiting very hot places (Dubai), trekking in high altitude coldness (Kilimanjaro, India), lazing on beaches (Indonesia, Tonga), and being fancy in cities (Hong Kong, Singapore).
Most people have been treating this idea with extreme skepticism, but packing challenges are my bag, baby (pun intended). We’ve put in lots of planning (Jen), and research (Jesse), and we’re committed to this idea even if it’s a disaster. We’ll see how it goes.
The strategy: lots of things that can be layered, as much quick-dry stuff as possible, and things that can be worn for many different purposes (ie yoga pants for hiking, sleeping, long underwear). Another rule: anything that goes in the pack must be something we will wear/use multiple times. Jesse’s pile:
My pile (note compartmentalization with packing cubes):
Regarding packs- I’m going with my old Mystery Ranch Sweet Pea, which I’ve successfully brought to Vietnam, Chile, and Peru for 1-2 month trips. It still looks like new after 7 years, no one ever makes me check it, and it fits a deceptively large amount. Jesse, after a lot of research, is going with the Tortuga. It did well in its trial run.
Anyone who is bored by lists, this is the end of the post!
